cover Understanding Yourself by Mark and Elizabeth Prophet; A spiritual approach to self-discovery and soul-awareness. I particularly like the chapters on how outside influences of our karma, lunar energies, the mass consciousness, and even entities, affects our psyche and causes moods. There are signs and ways to prevent being tossed around in a sea of emotional energy. cover The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Echart Tolle. I can't recommend this book enough. The tapes are great too. Very Zen. I liked his concept that people walking around talking to themselves are not much different from 'sane' people who have conversations in their head. It's about listening to the still, small voice of God instead.
cover Inner Bonding by Margaret Paul; ... offers us a simple and very effective tool for healing our inner upsets and quieting the confusion in our minds. I recommend that you use this valuable tool daily on your path to wholeness." SUSAN JEFFERS, PH.D., Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway, and Dare to Connect cover Healing Your Aloneness by Erika Chopich and Margaret Paul show how anyone can reconnect with his or her Inner Child to short-circuit self-destructive patterns, resolve fears and conflicts, and build satisfying relationships. Healing Your Aloneness outlines a self-healing process that can be used every day to restore a nurturing balance between loving Adult and loved Inner Child.
cover This Darned Elusive Happiness by Theun Mares; Discover how you can make space for joy, no matter what your life is bringing you. Learn how you can handle your fear; how to deal with trauma, conflict and difficult relationships; how to avoid falling into the vicious trap of blame and how to put the past behind you. cover Emotions, Transforming Anger, Fear and Pain by Marilyn Barrick; back cover: you will discover how to release anger, guilt and grief in a healthy way to experience inner joy. .. [included are] techniques such as trauma-release therapy, peaceful self-observation and using nature as healer to help us realize loving kindness, mindfulness and tolerance.
cover The Road Less Traveled, by M. Scott PeckAmazon: By melding love, science, and religion into a primer on personal growth, M. Scott Peck launched his highly successful writing and lecturing career with this book. Even to this day, Peck remains at the forefront of spiritual psychology as a result of The Road Less Traveled. In the era of I'm OK, You're OK, Peck was courageous enough to suggest that "life is difficult" and personal growth is a "complex, arduous and lifelong task." His willingness to expose his own life stories as well as to share the intimate stories of his anonymous therapy clients creates a compelling and heartfelt narrative. cover People of the Lie by M. Scott Peck; Ingram: In the first of a three-volume series, a psychiatrist uses case studies to reveal how evil exists in human behavior and explains how evil individuals can wreak havoc on the lives of people around them. People make the mistake of thinking we are all from the same source or share the same humanity. This is not so, simply because the part karma and reincarnation plays. This is valuable in understanding that people are not the same. Editor
cover The Invisible Partners by John Sanford; Review at Amazon: ... is simply the best book on relationships I have ever read. Sanford simplifies the highly complex dilemma in relationships of projecting our shadow side onto our spouse. He maintains a clear respect for both men and women and helps us understand how our psychological differences can create havoc if they are left unnoticed. The joy of this book is that it not only has great information but is also highly entertaining and very well written. cover Alchemy of the Heart by Elizabeth Clare Prophet and Patricia Spadaro; The major tenets of what Jesus taught and the path of Bhakti Yoga is how to give love and be love. This beautiful little book makes plain the ways to that path. If one has psychological problems, losing oneself in service and love is one of the best remedies.
cover The Hidden Power of the Heart, by Sara Paddison; Review at Amazon: Sara Paddison gives a winning and very personal testimony to the value of the Heartmath world-view and techniques. If you look through the Table of Contents, you may easily classify the book under "spirituality" with chapters on compassion, surrender, God's creation, deep heart listening, forgiveness, death... The heart of the book can be summarized, I think, by this paragraph. "As you practice loving each person you meet, you will perceive at deeper levels that earth is all one family cover The HeartMath Solution Amazon: may easily be written off as a book too eccentric for widespread public consumption, and that's unfortunate. The title's a bit misleading--it's not about cardiac care and it's not about calculus, but rather how 30 years of research have shown that the heart's "intelligence" affects emotions and physical health--especially when it comes to handling stress--and specifically what you can do to balance heart rhythms, reduce stress hormones, and boost your immune system.
cover Freeze Frame by Doc Lew Childre; Review at Amazon: This new edition of Freeze Frame makes one of the first and key tools of the HeartMath system even more accessible and attractive. It offers a most valuable technique: recognize and freeze the stressful frame of life, shift away from the mind and focus on the heart, step into a resourceful state, tap into one's heart intelligence, and come up with alternative solutions. cover Going to Pieces Without Falling Apart: A Buddhist Perspective on Wholeness by Mark Epstein; Amazon: In the era of self-empowerment and the relentless glorification of self-esteem, Mark Epstein is questioning whether we have it all backward. As a psychiatrist and practicing Buddhist for 25 years, Epstein has come to believe that the self-help movement has encouraged us to spend enormous amounts of time, money, and mental energy on patching up our egos, rather than pursuing true self-awareness.

The Breakthrough Experience by John F., Dr. Demartini . Editorial Review: ... real and practical manual for understanding why we live the way we do, and how to transform our lives into our highest vision. "Sacred Contracts: Awakening Your Divine Potential." by Caroline Myss; The core of the book is the belief that, before we are born, our souls agree to learn specific lessons in our upcoming lifetime. In order to fulfill that agreement, we get involved with certain people, find ourselves in certain places, and have to deal with certain life circumstances. How we handle all of that is the measure of our growth and progress.
cover
Forgiveness: A Bold Choice for a Peaceful Heart by Robin Casarjian; Ingram: Drawing on the philosophy of A Course in Miracles, Casarjian gives a new and surprising definition of forgiveness and provides original exercises and meditations that acknowledge our hurt even as they lead us beyond it. The book explores special cases involving family members, crime victims, self-forgiveness, and forgiveness of God.

Sacred Psychology of Love: The Quest for Relationships That Unite Heart and Soul, by Marilyn C. Barrick; Amazon review: Anne de Vore, Jungian analyst: In our search for the Beloved, whether inner or outer, we seek that mysterious blend of beauty and practicality which Dr. Marilyn Barrick masterfully conveys on every page. Synthesizing her knowledge of sacred text, her clinical expertise and her life's wisdom, she has written a book for anyone seeking to love or to be loved. With compassion and humor, she gives us an important tool for enriching relationships.

Power vs. Force: The Hidden Determinants of Human Behavior by David R. Hawkins; A reviewer on Amazon: POWER VS FORCE helps to solve the problems of confusion and negative patterns of behavior by presenting a crystal-clear model of consciousness along with a useful tool for measuring the energy levels of fields of consciousness around us. Hawkins describes how we can measure the frequencies of the fields surrounding people, ideas, and things with Kinesiology, sometimes referred to as "muscle testing."
cover
Excuse Me, Your Life Is Waiting: The Astonishing Power of Feelings by Lynn GrabhornV. McCowen, freelance reviewer: "And now for something completely different -- a self-help book that gives us a radical, here-to-fore unthinkable, seemingly too-good-to-be-true path to follow, finally acquiring what we all want out of life. ... The book promises to set the self-improvement genre on its ear with this unorthodox theory: we create our lives through how we feel. That's right, forget positive thinking, visualization, mind over matter, and all those other well-worn cure-alls for what ails the human race. What we feel is what we get! ...
The Right Questions: Ten Essential Questions To Guide You To An Extraordinary Life; by Debbie Ford. An Amazon reviewer: "I'm ususally suspicious of books with subtitles like this one, but this time I was pleasantly surprised. If you're a connoisseur of the self-help genre, you won't find dramatically new content. Ford's contribution: creative packaging to help us see the wisdom in old truths. Each chapter addresses a dimension of choice and suggests we can choose life affirmation and growth over self-sabotage and decline. Debbie Ford's theme: Each day we make choices, large and small. When we consciously assess the consequences of each choice, we might make different decisions. ..." Another reviewer: "I've been struggling for months now wondering why I can never seem to find the time for the things I claim are the most important to me. Debbie Ford let me in on a little secret: I have unconscious priorities that are sabotaging my conscious ones. These unconscious priorities are guiding the choices I make on a daily basis, keeping me stuck in a place I don't want to be (but can't seem to move out of.) If you're tired of going around in circles and want the keys that will help you move past where you are to the place you really want to be in life, read this book ..." I agree. Great book. By coming up with ten questions including spiritual ones, she helps the soul outwit the not-self or carnal mind. Deceptively simple but not the case if truly applied. The Alcoholism & Addiction Cure by Chris Prentiss; A Book Review by William House, (Editor, Reverse Spins)
Spirits. The name itself conjures up evocative images. There's the dictionary definition: DISTILLATE 1: as (1) : the liquid containing ethyl alcohol and water that is distilled from an alcoholic liquid or mash -- often used in plural (2) : any of various volatile liquids obtained by distillation or cracking (as of petroleum, shale, or wood) -- often used in plural b : a usually volatile organic solvent (as an alcohol, ester, or hydrocarbon). Then there are the more apt connotations. The notion that alcohol somehow usurps or destroys the spiritual side of man—even his will power and self control. At its worst it could mean some sort of possession involving entities or disembodied spirits, which would explain why addiction is so hard to stop. ... more >>

The Four Temperaments, A Rediscovery of the Ancient Way of Understanding Health and Character; by Randy Rolfe-- Book Review by William House, Reverse Spins: There are quite a few books and studies on personality types, even the four temperaments mentioned above. I recently read this one. I liked it because the author makes a seemless connection between ancient Greek thought and today's latest advances. I especially liked her focusing on diet as it affects the four types: phlegmatic, sanguine, melancholic and choleric. Her easy but thorough tests and natural writing style made it fun to read. I appreciated her very positive approach. Turns out I'm the creative type which needs caffeine, sweets and carbs to fuel the thought processes but an excess of these is not good. We always tend to to go overboard on things we think we need. I've made a vow to cut back thanks to Ms. Rolfe.
Irreducible Mind: Toward a Psychology for the 21st Century Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, With CD containing F. W. H. Myers's hard-to-find classic 2-volume Human Personality (1903) and selected contemporary reviews-- By Edward F. Kelly, Emily Williams Kelly, Adam Crabtree, Alan Gauld, Michael Grosso, and Bruce Greyson-- Publisher's description: Current mainstream opinion in psychology, neuroscience, and philosophy of mind holds that all aspects of human mind and consciousness are generated by physical processes occurring in brains. Views of this sort have dominated recent scholarly publication. The present volume, however, demonstrates--empirically--that this reductive materialism is not only incomplete but false. The authors systematically marshal evidence for a variety of psychological phenomena that are extremely difficult, and in some cases clearly impossible, to account for in conventional physicalist terms. Topics addressed include phenomena of extreme psychophysical influence, memory, psychological automatisms and secondary personality, near-death experiences and allied phenomena, genius-level creativity, and 'mystical' states of consciousness both spontaneous and drug-induced. The authors further show that these rogue phenomena are more readily accommodated by an alternative 'transmission' or 'filter' theory of mind/brain relations advanced over a century ago by a largely forgotten genius, F. W. H. Myers, and developed further by his friend and colleague William James. This theory, moreover, ratifies the commonsense conception of human beings as causally effective conscious agents, and is fully compatible with leading-edge physics and neuroscience. The book should command the attention of all open-minded persons concerned with the still-unsolved mysteries of the mind.
Social Intelligence: The New Science of Human Relationships, by Daniel Goleman-- Newsweek Article, by Anne Underwood-- How to Read a Face-10/20 The emerging field of social neuroscience is based on the idea that human brains are 'wired to connect.'-- Carl Marci was jubilant. After a year in therapy, trying to decide whether to propose to his girlfriend, he had finally taken the plunge—and she had said yes! As Marci recounted the story to his shrink days later, his therapist appeared to share the triumph with him. And it wasn't just an act. Marci, a psychiatrist himself at Massachusetts General Hospital, had wired himself and his therapist to special equipment that records heart-rate variability and "skin conductivity"—two measures that, taken together, indicate the ebb and flow of emotional arousal. When he examined the data later, Marci was stunned. Lines on the two charts rose and fell in perfect unison, revealing that his therapist was truly sharing his excitement. "It's no accident that we speak of being on the same wavelength with someone," says Marci. "In a moment like that, you really are." That is precisely the point that science writer Daniel Goleman makes in his new book, "Social Intelligence: The New Science of Human Relationships." As Goleman contends, human brains are "wired to connect," and to a much greater extent than we ever realized. ...

Astrology for our Psychology

from Office of Naval Research (and lets thank those Navy guys for pointing out that its not to scale)

Many of the burdens that befall us are our karma from previous lifetimes. This of course affects our psychology. To make serious headway on the spiritual path, resolving our psychology is necessary. However you do it, astrology is an adjunct to that goal. By studying the complete chart including all the major transits coming down the pike, one can be ready for the tests and the slings and arrows of seemingly outrageous fortune that will be headed our way. The jostling, bumps and pains we go through do not need to blindside us. Sometimes you'll be able to tell when a little package of karma is going to be delivered at your door. If we're ready, we can make the right decision, pass the test and move on. Maybe it's a test we won't have to face again, unless, of course, we fail it.. It wouldn't hurt to ask for a little Divine intervention either. You don't need to face these challenges on your own. God and his heavenly hosts will be glad to help. We just have to exercise our free will and ask for assistance.

Here is an excellent site that will provide you with free information, like tracking your major and daily transits with explanations included by Robert Hand. You can find the positions of the planets including Chiron, all for free: Astro Dienst

Astrology, Karma & Transformation: The Inner Dimensions of the Birth Chart, by Stephen Arroyo; reviewer at Amazon: This book takes a positive, helpful view of the topic of karma as it can be understood through astrology. There is a particular focus on the outer planets, including a description of their aspects and transits. In each section, Arroyo moves from the general concepts to a more specific cook-book listing of the planets. He discusses karmic relationships through analyzing synastry and progressions, and includes a special chapter on the Ascendant and Midheaven axes.

The Case for Astrology by John Anthony West, Famous Archaeologist and investigator into the mysteries of Egypt writes about what the Egyptians knew about astrology.
Whether science or sorcery, astrology influenced history-1/1 Philadelphia Inquirer, Book Review By Carlin Romano-- The Fated Sky Astrology in History By Benson Bobrick Simon & Schuster. 369 pp. $26-- With journalistic pundits discredited lately as too often on the take, shouldn't we approach this New Year's window of prognostication from another angle? Didn't the planetary maps of Regiomontanus aid Columbus? "Astrology is the oldest of the occult sciences," explains independent historian Benson Bobrick in The Fated Sky, his robust, fact-filled account of the subject, but "is also the origin of science itself," with progeny as diverse as astronomy and botany. Do you think astrology survives mainly as a jobs program for suburban women columnists, a quick way to check whether "good things, or possibly bad things," will happen this week? Think again. Bobrick, a Brattleboro, Vt.-based writer whose previous books include absorbing chronicles of such subjects as subways and stuttering, may not be in earnest here, but neither is his tongue in cheek. Astrology, Bobrick asserts, "is an applied science, insofar as it is based on astronomy; an exact science, insofar as its judgments are based on mathematical calculations; and an empirical science, insofar as its deductions are based on data gathered over the course of time."
Cosmos and Psyche “It is hard to think of many books written in the past century that will still be read two hundred years from now. Cosmos and Psyche will top that short list. It is majestic, sweeping, and profound. This will be a book for the ages. It will stand over time with the seminal expressions of the human spirit.”
— William Van Dusen Wishard-- author of Between Two Ages: The 21st Century and The Crisis of Meaning
“Breathtaking in the scope and scale of its vision, this extraordinary book shatters our cosmological assumptions as it awakens us to a living universe and its creative intelligence. Tarnas succeeds masterfully in bringing his encyclopedic knowledge forged in writing the critically acclaimed Passion of the Western Mind to the task of discerning the archetypal pulse of history. Spellbinding, eloquent, compelling, Cosmos and Psyche will be a marker for an entire generation.”

How to Learn Vedic Astrology

Editor: A good friend of mine has studied all sorts of astrology for many years, I mean he spends hours everyday on astrology and mathematics. He's come to the conclusion that Vedic astrology is the best and among Vedic astrologers the one he likes best in Ernst Wilhelm. Ernst won't do your astrology but he will teach you how to do your own. He even has free classes for you to listen to at his site (the link below). Be sure to check on the article on "Vedic astrology and Bach Flower Remedies." What I am most impressed about Ernst is that he took the time to learn Sanskrit and found some mistranslations regarding Vedic astrology.

Here is Ernst's site and some of his books:

Vedic-Astrology.net

Core Yogas (Paperback) by Ernst Wilhelm , Yoga means "yoke." In astrology, yogas are specific planetary configurations in the horoscope that yoke the individual to the fruits of his or her karmas. In Core Yogas, Yokes to the Fruits of Karmas, you will learn the important yogas that have been signaled out by the ancient seers of Vedic Astrology. The important yogas that give success, wealth, happiness and good qualities of character, as well as those indicating downfall, financial struggle, humiliation, suffering and a degraded character are given. Most importantly, proper guidelines are given that show you how to qualify a yoga in order to correctly judge the impact that a yoga will have on the individual. Yogas are virtually a branch of Vedic Astrology in themselves, which a careful study of this book will teach you. Core Yogas includes: All the yogas that have been given specific names by the ancient seers, over 215 important yogas. Both dasa dependent and the non-dasa dependent yogas that indicate the inherent foundation and strength of the horoscope. Special rules for determining the dasa/antardasa during which a yoga will give its effects. Over 140 detailed example horoscopes. Including the fructification of the yoga during the appropriate Vimshottari Dasa/Antardasa.
Classical Muhurta, Vedic Electional Astrology (Paperback) by Ernst Wilhelm , Muhurta, the astrological science of choosing a favorable moment to begin an activity such as marriage, travel, buying a house, etc. is perhaps one of the most demanding tasks placed upon an astrologer. It is here that the astrologer assumes the most responsibility in the client’s life. Through this book, Classical Muhurta, you will gain a thorough understanding of Muhurta principles and confidently learn how to select the most favorable moment available in which to perform any event. In fact, Classical Muhurta, is the only Muhurta text that tells you exactly what each and every Muhurta component does, so you will finally learn what the Nakshatra, Tithi, Karana, Yoga, Vara, Nadika, Hora and all the rest actually do. Each Muhurta factor is covered thoroughly and has a chapter devoted to it . The relative importance of the many different Muhurta factors is explained in detail. Specific Muhurta guidelines for over 140 different events- for any event you could ever hope to perform. Pages of example Muhurtas help you to see the real-life effects of the different Muhurta factors.
Graha Sutras (Hardcover) by Ernst Wilhelm, A translation with extensive commentary of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastras Su tras on the planets, with supplementation from other ancient texts. Graha Sutras is the first Volume of a series of texts dealing with the predictive methods and principles found in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. 384 pages of Grahas, Grahas and more Grahas make Graha Sutras the most thorough text available on the Grahas. Contains Sanskrit Sutras with precise translations and lengthy and profound commentaries that will bring the planets to life in a profound manner. Many important Sutras have been translated correctly for the first time in this work. Original artwork portrays the images of the planets in accordance with the precise descriptions found in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. There is even a chapter devoted to Graha Shanti - pacifying the planets.

Quotes on Astrology

"We are born at a given moment, in a given place, and like vintage years of wine, we have the qualities of the year and of the season in which we are born." Carl Gustav Jung

"The Birth-chart has to be understood as the archetype or seed-pattern of one's individual being – as the 'symbolic' form of one's individuality, and therefore also of one's destiny, for the two are identical." Dane Rudyar

"If people were able to draw an account of the quality of a day, they could avoid many difficulties. Indeed, astrology is a very exact science, and it demands extremely accurate correlation. It is evident that astrological data is limited to place and time. This is quite comprehensible when we picture a plan of intersecting currents. Thus, above all possible inaccuracies of our astrological interpretations, there exists the great indicator-the heart. The heart will tell in its own silent language where is the hardship which must be outlived, or the joy which must be utilized. But let the wisdom of the heart not be turned into superstition, and let the tablet of the astrologer not become a dried skeleton. A great number of petty circumstances vibrate in space, and only the fiery heart can understand the invisible network of causes. The Rays of Luminaries intersect nations, races, individuals. One may recognize the immutability of the chemism of the constellations but the analysis of such diverse confluence must be very carefully interpreted. The heart can assist, but even in straight-knowledge it is guided by Hierarchy. With justice people turn to the science of astrology, but without the fiery heart they may find themselves in an impassable jungle. Thus let us remember the heart, otherwise speaking, the Heirarchy." #115, El Morya in Fiery World II

"Astrochemistry makes it possible to determine the best combinations of astrochemical rays for each organism. Astrology is nothing but formulas of astrochemistry. He who enters a house permeated with nicotine will carry away with him poisonous particles. Similarily, once someone has experienced directly the action of certain rays, he will always respond to this particular combination. Knowing this, it becomes easy to ascertain when to approach a person who is needed." El Morya in Agni Yoga, p. 17

"One should observe that during especially grave conjunctions of the constellations strong spirits appear. One may investigate in history how systematically powerful helpers are sent from the Fiery World, who take upon themselves the burdens of the World, and who plant magnets for the future. One must study the history of the planet from all angles, in various branches of knowledge. One should recognize the winding paths of humanity as a science connected with the basic laws of the Universe. The study of the chemism of the luminaries should be introduced without delay. Already much valuable material has been accumulated which once again confirms the bond between all the Worlds." Fiery World - Book 2 #449

This last quote is from "Opus Majus," by Roger Bacon (1214 to1294). He was a Franciscan Friar, alchemist, mathematician, inventor and scientist. He is generally regarded as the father of the scientific age and was tireless in his efforts to bring about freedom of thought and ideas. He fought the forces of dogmatism and fanaticism running rampant through the Catholic Church and was instrumental in bringing forth the Renaissance and the Age of Enlightenment. One must take into account that he is writing in the time of the inquisition. The Catholic Church did not want to hear about natural law nor about anything that affects human destiny. They only believed in one thing influencing all phenomena: Christ (i.e. their perception of Him.)

"In human affairs the true mathematician not presume to make certain fixed statements, but considers how the body is altered by climate, and how, when the body is altered, the soul is roused now to private actions and now to public, though the liberty of decision is yet kept safe in all. For though the rational soul is not compelled to perform its own actions, yet it can be subjected to strong inducements, and roused so that it may voluntarily desire that towards which the celestial force may incline it, just as we see men through fellowship and counsel change their original feelings of fear and love and much of this nature, and voluntarily desire what previously they did not desire, though they are subjected to no compulsion, just like the man who hurls his most precious merchandise into the sea in the hope of safety. But we see that the forms and properties of lower things change our senses, even though they be but forms of things visible and audible which affect the body but slightly; and so strongly do they rouse men to desiring things for which they formerly cared nothing, that sometimes they reckon not of death or dishonor or fear, so long as they sate their lusts ... But the power and form of the heavens and the stars are far more mighty to press down upon body and organs, and when these have been greatly altered, a man will be stirred violently to actions for which he cared not a whit before, though his free will is yet left to him."
